Live Band Shoot with Steadicam in Chicago : September 3, 2012. Shooting the band R5 at the Hancock building plaza on Michigan Avenue in Chicago. This shoot was a small portion of several days of recording that I did for Actin Web Video, gathering b-roll of numerous events from the Magnificent Mile Shopping Festival. For this shoot I used the Panasonic HMC150 camcorder on the Steadicam Flyer LE. I used a Varizoom cabled controller (VZ-Rock-PZFI) to adjust focus, iris and zoom on the fly. Lip Dub shoot with Steadicam Pilot : April 10, 2011. "Lip Dub" shoot at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. Shooting with the Steadicam Pilot rig on an outrageously tight timetable. Put two decent takes "in the can" before being ejected from the building. Working with an unconventional grip on the gimbal handle as I was using a remote iris controller to constantly adjust exposure as we travelled from room to room. The Kiss: rehearsals (7D and 16mm, Steadicam) : October 31 and November 1, 2010. Elaborate Blocking rehearsals for the following weeks epic long take shoot (a five minute and forty second continuous meandering shot on Super 16mm film involving fifty extras and ten principals). For the blocking rehearsals we used the Canon 7D on the Steadicam Pilot rig (day 1) and the Arri SR2 with a Lite Panel (day 2). The actual shoot utilized a super-16mm SR2 and no Lite Panel. Steadicam Operation for Weddings in Chicago : October 2010. Images demonstrating typical configurations used for working with the Steadicam Pilot on wedding shoots. These photos are from three engagement sessions and three actual weddings. The main change in my current setup is that I have an HDMI monitor (rather than the SD stock monitor) on the rig for these shoots. I will also note that on actual nuptial dates I wear full “dress blacks” with a long sleeve shirt and pants (rather than the more casual shorts I sport for the engagement photo sessions). The bulk of these images are from 2010, with the first four from 2009 in which I’m working with a Sony HDV camcorder rather than the Canon 7D DSLR featured in all the other shots.
